The Leipzig “Brühl” at the crossroads of the old imperial Via Regia and Via Imperia is one of the oldest streets in Leipzigs inner city. In the GDR the war-damaged Wilhelminian department store situated here was given a new cladding. Due to its characteristic convex-concave structure it soon became one of the citys icons. In 2012 a new shopping centre with apartments was built on the 21,000 m2 site, whose facade incorporated the characteristic interplay between convex and concave elements.

Just as the architecture by Berlin-based Grüntuch Ernst Architekten the graphic conception of the signage system references the architectural history of the site. The core of the design concept features a custom made typeface that, just like a Moebius strip, plays with human perception and makes for a very distinct appearance.
